Egypt is always directing its efforts towards implementing new projects that serve its citizens. It has already started constructing new cities, such as 4G Cities and 5G Cities. In addition, it carried out large projects in the field of transportation to facilitate citizens’ movement and serve the residential neighborhoods. Among these projects are the Monorail project that links Greater Cairo with the newer cities, the Light Rail Transit (LRT), and the High-Speed Electric Railway. Let’s discover together everything about the High-Speed Electric Railway project in Egypt.

About the High-Speed Electric Railway

The High-Speed Electric Railway project is considered one of the cleanest means of transportation used to transport passengers and goods to and from the main Egyptian cities and ports. In 2021, the National Authority for Tunnels, a Government Agency under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Transportation of Egypt, signed an agreement with Siemens, a German company, to implement the High-Speed Electric Railway project in Egypt, which is expected to create a paradigm shift in Egypt’s transportation networks. It is worth noting that some Egyptian companies, such as Orascom Construction and the Arab Contractors, also contributed to carrying out this project.

This great railway is characterized by its ability to carry many passengers and goods in comparison to regular trains, which will help reduce traffic congestion. It is also known for its high-speed that reaches 230 km/h, which will help in transporting people and goods from one city to another quickly. In addition, this railway is a safe means of transportation and will have a better impact on the environment. And let’s not forget that it will boost the tourism sector, as it will link distant cities together; the first line will connect the Red Sea with the Mediterranean Sea, the second line will connect the October Gardens neighborhood with Aswan, and the third line will connect Qena in Upper Egypt with Hurghada and Safaga.
